Vipers, Villa held by ‘underdogs’ in the Uganda Premier League

Kitende based Vipers Sports Club’s effort to lift this season’s  league trophy suffered another setback  as they were held to a one all draw by Soana FC at the St.Mary’s stadium in the Azam Uganda Premier League on Wednesday.

The hosts took the lead on the seventeenth minute mark, thanks to an Erisa Ssekisambu penalty after   a foul on Mousa Mbayi earlier.

Ssekisambu’s goal threw the fans at Kitende in frenzy but the celebrations lasted for only thirty minutes when a lapse by Vipers’ players resulted into a forty seventh minute equalizer   for the visitors, thanks to Baker Buyala, only a few minutes after recess.

The draw on Wednesday at St. Mary’s stadium meant that Vipers have now lost four games in the last two previous games.

The team was on Saturday beaten two one by Police FC in the Azam Uganda Premier League in the Azam Uganda Premier League.

Villa held

At Luzira, record league champions SC Villa were also held to a one all draw by league new league entrants Maroons FC in a game played at the Maroons stadium.

Yubu Bogere scored in the thirteenth minute for the visitors to take lead at Luzira and held onto the lead until the added minutes when Patrcik Gonahasa levelled the matters for Maroons and the game ended one all.

Vipers are now top of the Azam Uganda Premier League table on eleven points collected from six games, the same number as second placed Kirinya Jinja SS, the former with a better goal difference.

Record champions SC Villa are sixth on the sixteen team log after collecting nine points out of the possible eighteen.
