Bobi Wine sues gov’t; wants Shs 300m for stopping his concerts

Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine has sued government and Kampala Metropolitan police commander Frank Mwesigwa for stopping his concerts around the country.

Mwesigwa on Wednesday stopped Bobi Wine’s music shows pending investigations over what police termed as incitement of violence.

Through his lawyers led by Ladislaus Rwakafuuzi,Bobi Wine says that it was illegal and violation of his rights for police through the KMP commander to stop his countrywide shows.

“It is a violation of my constitutional guarantees to the freedom of speech, expression association and right to work,”Bobi Wine says in his affidavit.

The Kyadondo East legislator cites shows in Kamuli and Mukono as some of those that were stopped by police, a thing he says is against the law.

He quotes the incident in Kamuli that was scheduled to take place on October 20 that prompted police officers and crime preventers to pluck off his posters as well as stopping adverts on radios and tvs.

“My promoter Mr.Bakiddaawo had spent a lot of money on advertising and I anticipated to earn a gross amount of shs30,000,000 from the show that was stopped.”

He further quotes the show that was slated for today Thursday in Mukono at Colline hotel that was also stopped by police on orders of KMP commander Frank Mwesigwa which led him to lose huge sums of money.

“Mwesigwa informed me that I risked losing my career if I didn’t stop making music to sound political and that I would not be allowed on state again, which was illegal.”

Bobi Wine says government should compensate him a whooping sum of three hundred million shillings for violating his right to work because he earns a living from music.

He adds that restricting his movements to only Kampala is also a violation of his right to move to any desired place as enshrined in the constitution.

His lawyer Rwakafuuzi said his client expressed the need for the case to be heard because it touches a critical issue of stopping his means of earning a living
