Singer Spice Diana to be charged with assaulting police officer

Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Emilian Kayima has revealed that singer Hajara Namukwaya also known as Spice Diana is to be charged for assaulting a police officer.

On Sunday, the singer claimed she has been beaten by police at Kampala Capital City Carnival.

“After my first performance at the carnival, I was beaten and disrespected by ruthless Police officers and I am nursing wounds,” Diana wrote on her social media accounts.

She also shared pictures of her in hospital with bruises.

However according to Kayima, the singer, her manager Rogers Lubega and other people defied instructions by police on accessing the Kampala city carnival.

"They didn't want to go through laid down procedures of access control points,"Kayima said.

"Unfortunately she beat our officer which is unacceptable. "

Kayima said the two are set to be charged for assaulting a police officer and obstruction of police.

Asked to comment about the bruises that were seen on the singer's body, Kayima said that if she was beaten, she ought to have recorded a statement.

"She should have been given a medical report .We can still investigate it,"Kayima said.

On the name of the assaulted officer, Kayima said he could not reveal the identify.

The incident will however raise concerns over who is telling the truth between the singer and police.

In her statements as captured on her social media platforms, Spice Diana claims she was assaulted after performing at the Kampala city carnival whereas police claim she flouted procedures in accessing the event.
